Encouraging Positivity & Reflection
Brookside follows a play-based learning approach that recognizes play as an essential part of a child’s growth and development. Through purposeful play experiences, children explore their environment, develop creativity, and build important social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
At Brookside, teachers create engaging learning environments where children are encouraged to ask questions, experiment, and discover new ideas through hands-on activities. Play opportunities such as dramatic play, building, art, music, sensory exploration, and outdoor activities allow children to develop language, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in a natural and enjoyable way.
Our educators guide and support children’s play by introducing age-appropriate materials, asking thoughtful questions, and encouraging collaboration with peers. This balance of child-led exploration and teacher-supported learning helps children gain independence, confidence, and a love for learning.
Our center uses the Gee Whiz Curriculum, a comprehensive, play-based early childhood curriculum designed to support the growth and development of the whole child. This curriculum aligns with Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards and focuses on engaging children in hands-on learning experiences that promote curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
The Gee Whiz Curriculum is organized around monthly themes that introduce children to new concepts through meaningful activities such as art, sensory exploration, literacy experiences, science discovery, music, and dramatic play. These activities are integrated throughout the classroom environment and daily routines, encouraging children to explore, ask questions, and actively participate in their learning.
